If you’ve been watching any of the myriad of home design shows on television the last few years you may recognize and be lusting after the latest trends and those luxury homes. Interior design has become smarter and in many ways more user friendly, and virtually any space can be transformed to be not only practical but visually impressive.
In Australia, most of the trends for interior design are going back to basics; earthy, environmentally friendly, low maintenance, and simple beauty. Wall panelling will remain; it gives ‘wow’ factor at a favourable price, and is a simple solution to transform a space and add interest. Terrazzo will be doing the same, and is so popular now that affordable lookalike products from tile companies will mean the opulent look will be achievable for less if you haven’t budget for the real deal.
Concrete, depending on the application, will be incorporated into floors, and into the kitchen and bathrooms. Whilst we’ll still be going with clean lines, the sharp lines of structure will be softened with curves in décor and furniture.
Nature comes indoors, in the form of wood and stone. Think colours, textures and materials from the land and sea. Earthy tones and textured fabrics such as wool, felt and boucle will feature, and artisan hand crafted decorations will add depth and character to the curated organic environment.
